School Venues

In School settings, we have a maximum of twenty children in each class. As well as the class leader, we ask the setting to provide as many staff as possible to be active in a class. This is to support and encourage children as well as hopefully gaining ideas to use throughout the week.

We provide classes on a weekly basis during term time, each class lasting approximately forty-five minutes. All sessions are carefully planned to maintain a balance of active participation, listening, sitting down and moving around. There is structure but also flexibility. Children learn through repetition, constant beginnings and endings choice and positive encouragement.

We use a wide selection of material that is traditional and original, incorporating a variety of cultures. There are aims for each piece of material which link in to both Birth to Three Matters and The Foundation Stage Curriculum, enabling children to learn across all 6 areas of learning.

Bongalong provides a wide range of good quality percussion instruments giving plenty of opportunity to explore and play. We also use props to provide visual stimulus to aid concentration and the imagination. Through well tested, and original ideas in use of props instrument games and themes, songs and dancing, this is a quality activity, which will enhance and extend any nurseries activity planning.

Bongalong has been working in partnership with The Whittingham Primary School, St Marys C of E Primary School and St. Saviours C of E Primary School in Walthamstow.

‘At Whittingham Primary School, we were lucky enough to have Fiona come along and run the sessions for parents and nursery children for 45 minutes once a week.  The children had the opportunity to use a wide selection of instruments, learnt some traditional songs and rhymes and used puppets and visual props to provide variety.  A wide selection of material was used, incorporating a variety of cultures. Singing, play-acting and making music together provided the opportunity for fun and interactive learning. It was amazing how quickly the children learnt the songs and all the parents were delighted to join in and interact with their children to express themselves through music. I would have no hesitation in recommending the Bongalong music sessions to schools, parents and children. All the children loved their “Bongalong” time and it was wonderful to see them engage with Fiona’s sessions with such enthusiasm!
